Harford Mutual Insurance Group and ClearPath Mutual Announce Merger Plan

Harford Mutual Insurance Group, a commercial property/casualty insurer, has announced a merger with ClearPath Mutual Insurance Company, a workers’ compensation monoline carrier.

“We are constantly looking for opportunities that complement our strategic goals and provide the products and services our policyholders and independent agents require,” says Steve Linkous, president and CEO of Harford Mutual Insurance Group (HMIG). “ClearPath Mutual perfectly complements our product line offering while expediting our plans for geographic diversification. We are excited to welcome ClearPath’s employees, agents, and policyholders to HMIG as we work together to achieve our shared vision of being a carrier of choice.”

ClearPath Mutual, formerly KESA of Kentucky for over 40 years, was founded in 2018 and currently provides monoline workers’ compensation coverage in Indiana, Kentucky, Georgia, Tennessee, and West Virginia. ClearPath has steadily grown and writes over $52 million in direct written premium across nearly 7,000 policies through an independent agency plant and relationships with local chambers of commerce and associations. ClearPath will continue to operate under its current name, and the Louisville, Kentucky office will continue to serve as HMIG’s Midwest Regional Office.

“Since 2018, the ClearPath board and leadership have been charting a path to long-term success. “We are financially strong and committed to the communities we serve,” says ClearPath Mutual President and CEO Jeff Borkowski. “This merger into Harford Mutual Insurance Group will provide us with the scalable infrastructure and regional reach to meet our strategic goals of providing community[1]first workers’ compensation coverage to our policyholders.”

The transaction is expected to close once all necessary reviews and approvals have been obtained.
